Day 4 #B90Days Challenge
Day 4 Reading: Genesis 40:12 – Genesis50:26
Thursday, July 8, 2010
Yea! I made it to day 4! Today, I will finish out Genesis. So far, I’ve really enjoyed doing this and have done good at making it a priority every day. Let’s hope I can keep it going for the full 90 days!
Below are some of my questions and thoughts that popped up while reading.
Gen 41:54 And the seven years of dearth began to come, according as Joseph had said: and the dearth was in all lands; but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.
I guessed that the word “dearth” mean famine, but wanted to make sure, this is what I discovered:
From the word râ‛âb, meaning hunger (more or less extensive). (Strongs)
1. Scarcity; as a dearth of corn.
2. Want; need; famine;
3. Barrenness; sterility; as a dearth of plot.
(Webster’s 1828)
So, I was righty in what I thought it meant
Gen 49:10 The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.
I wasn’t sure who or what “Shiloh” was, but I suspected it was a name for the Messiah. Just to be sure I looked it up.
From the word shı̂ylôh, meaning tranquil; Shiloh, an epithet of the Messiah. (Strongs)
So this is an Old Testament prophesy of the Messiah, Jesus Christ!
Here is my SOAP for the day:
S: Gen 50:20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.
O: God took the bad that happened to Joseph and turned it to good. There is a similarity here to what God did through Jesus. God sacrificed Jesus for the greater good of mankind. And as horrible as his death was, God used “it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive”!
A: Remember when things don’t always go my way, that all things, even terrible, evil things happen for a reason and God can and will use them for His glory!
P: Father God, help me to accept all things that you bring into my life. Help me to deal with the bad as well as the good. Help me to remember that all things work for your glory, even if I don’t understand how. Thank your for sacrificing your Son for the world’s sin and help me to be as content as He was with your desires for my life. In Christ’s name, Amen.
