When Marty’s home all my regular chores go out the window and we do projects as a family. Granted, it makes a lot more work for me to catch up with when he goes back to work, but we love having hime home. And the projects are usually fun. Yesterday I made my 3rd batch of Kefir, made refrigerator pickles, and processed some dehydrated veggies. We also watched the Sally Fallon “Nourishing Traditions” DVD, which I can HIGHLY recommend to anyone interested in eating the Nourishing Traditions way. We also watched “The Alamo” with John Wayne. The boys have been wanting to watch it and I found it in the $5 bin at Walmart.
As soon as I finish this post, I’m off to start the tea for my kombucha and skim the cream off of a gallon of raw milk to make butter. We’re having lots of fun today! Monday, we’re going to go to the Sweet Sorghum Festival at Homestead Heritage on Labor Day. If any of you Texas ladies are close by the Waco area, I can HIGHLY recommend this festival. It’s alot of fun. If you do plan to try and make it, let me know and we’ll try to have a meeting. You can email me at simply.susan.blog@gmail.com.
I will update this list over the weekend and then, hopefully, get back to my regular posting once Marty goes back to work on Tuesday. Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

We’ll be trying this again at a later date. My friend Dee makes Mozzarella and she’s going to give me her recipe to try.

WE got back from my BIL’s farm late Tuesday evening. THe farm day was a lot of fun, but we mostly enjoyed visiting with our family. For right now, I’m going to post a few pictures. I’ll be back with a real post hopefully sometime this afternoon. Marty’s home until Tuesday after labor day and we have a lot of stuff planned, so I won’t be posting as often until he goes back to work.
Also – Thursday Bible Study is cancelled yet again because Marty has a ton of stuff he wants us to do today. Bible Study will go back to the schduled time next week. Sorry for the delay and for not letting you know a bit sooner!
NOw on to the pictures….
My nieces R & G with Riley
My niece G wearing my sunglasses
Some of the kids at farm day playing on the farming equipment
My niece A taking Riley riding on her pony. He just loves horses and wants his own pony so bad! If we could save up the money for one, I’d buy him one, but right now our money needs to go to other things.
Me reading to the kids. Across the front, E, Me, Riley & Colt. Across the back A & R. I always enjoy reading to the kids. They especially like for me to read “Green Eggs and Ham”. Someday I’ll get Marty to film video of that ….the kids think it’s really funny!
I’m going to be away from the blog over the weekend. We’re headed down to Sand Creek Farm for visit my BIL & SIL. They are having their Farm Day at the farm, so if you live nearby bring your family down for a really fun time!
I won’t be posting over the weekend, so I’ll see you all on Monday with lots of pictures! Have a fabulous weekend everyone!
video of Riley singing Kung Fu Fighting (Marty & Colt taught it to him), while twirling part of my salad spinner on his head. Do boys ever grow out of this kind of thing?!?
This is a picture I took of Marty yesterday. I was reading about photography on another blog, so I was inspired to play around with this picture. The picture on the left is the original. The one on the right is the doctored one. What do you think? I blurred out the background and I think it turned out pretty good!
Here is my menu for the week for my family. My menu plan runs from Friday-Thursday. This is what I’m serving my family for the week, my personal diet menu can be found on my diet blog.
I forgot to get this posted yesteday. We were having too much fun having a great family day, so I’m just now catching up on blog stuff. But, that’s okay, because family comes first and blogging is down on the list under husband, kids, and home.
There weren’t many garage sales this week, but I still managed to get some great deals. Mostly on clothing for Riley. It’s all still too big for him (mostly sizes 6/7 – 8/9). I’ll put them up for him to grow into. I’m also posting my best deal from last week, but I’ll get to that in a minute! On with the spoils of this week of garage sale-ing!
3 polo shirts for Riley Orange, navy & white stripe – $10 Olive & white stripe – $0.50 Dark forest green – $0.35 2 short sleeve dress shirts, Blue plaid – $0.35, green plaid – $0.50 1 pair Cars PJ’s – $1, 1 short sleeve Cars t-shirt – $0.25 Phonics Fun book – $0.25, Learning to REad with Words and Pictures – $0.25 Encyclopedia of the United States at War – $0.50 Now for the great deals from last week’s garage sales! I was able to get an complete “The Phonics Game” for $5. Most of it has never even been opened or used. A complete unused, brand new set of Hooked on Phonics – $25. The lady bought it and then never used it. Everything is still all sealed up! She also has a Hooked on Math that we’re going to try to purchase from her next week for the same price.
Yesterday, after Marty got off work, we ran to the grocery store and to get a few things I forgot. Then we came home and just hung around the house. Marty fixed a tripod he bought at a garage sale a year or so back, which he gave to me to use with my camera. So, of course, I had to play around with it. These pictures are the product of that playing around :0)
Riley saw this cool looking spider on this sunflower, so it was the first photo “victim”. I was playing with the Macro setting on my camera. I sure wish I understood what all the different settings do…but I have fun playing with them!
Next, I started taking photos of some big bumble bees getting nector off of some of our sunflowers. I haven’t seen such big bumble bees in a long time. Marty figures there must be a hive somewhere close by, as we’ve been seeing a ton of them.
I just liked how this picture turned out.
Just a picture of the clouds in the sky.
A quick family photo :0)
My 2 sweet boys. I just love how this picture came out!
Marty snapped this picture while I was watching the boys play.
