Our Visit to My Nanny

Sunday, we went to visit my maternal grandmother, Nanny at the nursing home. It turned out that my parents were visiting as well :) So we not only got to see Nanny, but my parents as well!

Finished Project – 15 baby hats for Hats ‘N’ Hearts Marathon

Here are 15 hats that I’ve made so far for the Hats ‘N’ Hearts Marathon. They’re made using my simple preemie hat pattern. I used a variety of yarn that I had on hand. These hats work up really quickly, I can do about 3 in an hour!

Finished Project – Shawl for Crochet Mania Swap

This is the shawl I made for my partner for the shawl swap at Crochet Mania. I used this pattern. I used Lion Brand Homespun in Cream.

Friday, Friday, Friday!!

I know I haven’t been around much the past few weeks. Things have been rather hectic here and I’m also trying to finish up several projects. I guess I over committed myself a little bit :)

I’m working on finishing up:

  1. The shawl for swap at Crochet Mania
  2. The kitchen/bath swap stuff at Crochet Mania
  3. Baby afghan for Marty’s co-worker’s girlfriend
  4. Granny Square Project afghans (an on going thing)

I’m nearly done with the shawl and the bath swap stuff. Once I get them done, I’ll be doing much better….LOL!!

We’ve also been going out of town a lot this past month and will be going out of town again, next weekend, so I can work on a website for some friends of my BIL & SIL. While I miss posting on a daily basis, I will still be posting 3-4 times a week. This part of the year is always busy for us. Trying to get the gardens ready, chicks, and all the other spring farm chores. Hopefully things will settle down a bit by the end of February. Until then I’m pretty busy and running my legs off…lOL!!

Finished Project – Granny Square Baby Afghan (TGSP)

This is a baby afghan I did for my Granny Square Project. It will be going to Hillcrest Hospital NICU in Waco Texas. Thanks go out to Bambi for making the squares!! I put the afghan together with Caron Simply Soft in Baby Brights Ombre. the blue around the edges was a baby blue worsted weight I had on hand (not sure of the brand). I think it turned out really nice and this is the size I’m going to continue to use, as I can make them quickly and it’s a good size to cover up a preemie or newborn.

Bambi sent 40 of these granny squares, so I’ll be able to whip up several more of these, so you will be seeing some similar afghans coming out in the next couple of weeks. Our Walmart didnt’ have any more of the Caron Simply Soft in Baby Brights Ombre the last time I went, so the next few ones will be done using Red Heart Baby Econo in Yummy.

6 Weird Things Meme

I got tagged by Lady_MSnow

THE RULES: Each player of this game starts with the 6 weird things about you. People who get tagged need to write a blog of their own 6 weird things as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names. Don’t forget to leave a comment that says you are tagged in their comments and tell them to read your blog.

  1. I can curl my tongue and cross my eyes at the same time :)
  2. I love all kinds of cooked tomatoes, but just try to get me to eat a raw one and I nearly gag.
  3. I still remember this silly little rhyme from elementary school and I can say it REALLY fast and in one breath. Ladies and gentlemen, hobbos and tramps, crosseyed mosquitos and bowl-legged ants. This is a story you’ve never heard before, so pull up a chair and sit on the floor. One dark night when the sun shown bright, two dead boys arose to fight. They turned around and faced each other, one pulled out a sword and shot the other. A deaf policeman heard the noise and came to kill the two dead boys. If you don’t believe this tail so tall, ask the blind man, he saw it all.
  4. I pronounce the word “Exxon” as Eggs-on and I’m often asked, eggs on what? It’s just my Texan accent I guess.
  5. I do this strange little “stamping” thing everytime we drive past a truck with hay on it. My Nanny use to do it and I picked it up. I don’t even realize I’m doing it most of the time.
  6. Everytime I pick out a girls name, some on else in my family steals it. I always us to say I wanted to name a daughter Megan (my cousin named her daughter that). Then it was Abigail (I have 2 nieces named that!). When I was pregnant with Riley, we had chosen Liberty for if he was a girl, Marty’s cousin, who was pregnant at the same time chose that name too. I didn’t find out until we saw her at Marty’s Mom’s funeral. Here I was thinking that finally I’d chosen a name that was different enough not to be stolen, only to talk to her and find out that was the name she’d chosen.

Today we have 8 chicks that have totally hatched, plus several more working on hatching. We put in 24 eggs originally…I wonder how many will hatch! It’s now officially spring on the farm (GRIN!!). We also plan on ordering about 75-100 chicks in a couple of weeks.

Food as Medicine notes from Jerry Brunetti Lecture

Food as Medicine: Taking control of Your Food and Health

By Jerry Brunetti

January 20, 2007

Sand Creek Farm

Farms are the pharmacies of the future.

Americans eat 170 pounds of refined sugar each year

Cancer cells thrive on glucose (sugar)

Weston A Price Foundation

Calorie intake and variety of food determines health.

Health comes from consuming full-spectrum, nutrient dense sustenance.

If food is not nutrient dense, it is not healthy even if it is organic.

Animal, plants & human cells talk to each other

Foods are medicines.

When oxygen levels of our cells drop by 30%, cancer can grow.

Trace elements build enzymes

We get trace elements from what we eat—from the soil.

The colors of the rainbow in our food is what matters

Local Food system – you should know where your food is coming from and how it’s grown.

We are running out of nutrients in our soil.

A nation’s health is based on its soil health

Lutein– egg yolk & kale – good for eyes

Resveratrol

Lycopene – Prostate health found in tomatoes

Proanthocyanadins – Found in grape skins

Concentrated in thyroid & ovaries
Involved in energy metabolism
Reproduction
Immune function
Found in goitrogenic soybeans, brassicas
Seaweed
Daily intake 25-50 milligram
Seafood, eggs (grass fed), free range hens are rich in iodine
Chickens need to get extra iodine for eggs to be rich in iodine (kelp)

Do not eat non-fermented soy products – they have goitrogenic compounds

Legumes in pastures for chickens for no soy protein (oats, barley & milo good as well). Let chickens eat insects.

There are iodine deficiencies in animals, soil & humans in US

Thursday News

Today has been a busy day and very frustrating! Saturday, we got our income tax refund back. We have our taxes done at H&R Block and this year they were offering to have your refund put on a prepaid debit card. Marty decided to do that and it seemed to be working really well, until today (I’ll go into that in a little bit).

Anyway, Monday, my computer died and Marty’s computer was pretty much dead too. So it worked out well that we had gotten our income tax back already. My dear sweet husband bought me a new computer with part of our refund, a really nice laptop to boot (we found it at a REALLY good price, as cheap as a desk top)! I’m really excited about it, but I’m sad at all the stuff I lost on my old computer. We’re going to try to get it fixed or at least (hopefully) be able to retrieve some of the information off of it. Then yesterday, another one of our tires blew out and we had to buy 2 new tires.

Well today, I called to check the balance on the debit card and discovered much less that what was suppose to be in there. I went to check the purchases and discovered over $500 in fraudulent charges had been made against our debit card!! We have no idea how our information was stolen, but thankfully, it looks like we will be getting the money back, but it will take a while. It’s really weird….we just got the thing this past Saturday and already have fradulent activity against it! We had planned on using what was left of our refund to finally get caught up after all the expenses from when we lost Gabriel in September. We’ll still get caught up, but later than we had hoped. We’re also need to purchase a new refrigerator (used, but new to us) as our old one died this past weekend.

We had planned on using the money differently that it’s worked out, but I know God had His hand in this. God certainly did bless us to have all these things go out (computer, tires & refrigerator)when we had the money to replace them! GOD IS SO GOOD!! Even with this set back with the stolen money, we’re going to be okay, just later than we wanted :)

Tuesday I got a very special gift in the mail from Dee

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Isn’t this the prettiest shawl! I was so surprised to have received it and have really enjoyed wearing it these past few cold days here! THANK YOU SO MUCH DEE!! I will treasure it always!

Yesterday morning, we actually got some snow! The kids were so excited…

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Colt didn’t want me to take his picture, so I only got a picture of Riley. They both had fun making snow balls and throwing them at each other.

Today, I’ve been working on the shawl for my parter for the Shawl Swap at Crochet Mania and on a baby afghan for the Granny Square Project. Riley’s ear infecion is gone and he’s feeling well again.

Saturday, we’re going to my BIL’s farm to hear Jerry Brunetti speak. Marty and I are really looking forward to hearing him. We’re taking the boys to my parent’s house tomorrow and we’ll stay overnight and then Marty and I are heading to Ben & Sissy’s for the lecture. Mom & Dad will meet us in Waco Saturday evening to drop off the kids and we’ll head home from there. The lecture is called “Food is Medicine”. I think it’s going to be really interesting. You can purchase his DVD, Cancer, Nutrition & Healing from Amazon.

Well, I need to get off the computer! I hope you all have a beautiful day!!
