I Feel Like I’m in School Again

It’s taken me about 2 hours to finish reading and studying Matthew 5 & 6! I still need to read Matthew 7&8 today, but I’ll get it done this evening. It’s been so long since I’ve studied anything that I’ve forgotten how much work it is! At least it’s something really important, which makes doing it more rewarding.

Marty bought me a parallel Bible a few months back (KJV & Amplified). I’m really enjoying it. There’s nothing like a fresh clean Bible all ready to make your own! Here’s a picture of what it looks like now after 2 days of reading/studying.

I’ve read the Bible through many times, but this is the first time I’ve really really dug into it and studied it. I’m enjoying the challenge of it. It’s making me use my brain in ways I don’t get to do very often!

Last night, Marty bought Riley a head light, because he’s always borrowing Martys. Well, Riley refuses to wear it on his head, but likes it around his neck. Here’s a picture of how I found him last night when I went to check on him…

I thought this was just too funny!!

Well I’m off to finish some laundry and then try to take a short nap. Marty had to work today and should be getting off in a little bit.

In My Inbox This Morning

I got this email today from Jason Clarke from the University of Michigan’s Potter’s research study. I was really touched and so glad that we’ve been able to help with this research!

Hi Susan,

In checking the stats on my website I found that your blog was my #8 referrer this month. I really appreciate you posting information about how to make donations to our research. With volume of traffic that your blog generates at http://susangodfrey.blogspot.com/ I am sure that we are bound to receive more than a few donations as a direct result of your advertisement. The fund is small at the moment, but hopefully through your help and others like you the fund will grow and will eventually contribute to the majority of our research funding. Your advertisement for us helps to bring people to visit my site. A site such as mine generally doesn’t attract much attention, but I would like for it to be something more than what it is someday. Perhaps with more information and resources for parents and the general public. If you have suggestions for what you would like to see on my site I would love to hear them.

Thanks again for your advertisement for us. I’ll try to keep up on checking my stats more religiously at the end of each month so that I can give my thanks to you and the others that have been sending people and much need research money our way.

Best Wishes,
Jason Clarke

My Ho-Hum Day and Around the Blogs

Okay, today has been really dull :)

There’s just not a lot going on. I have to get a couple loads of laundry done and the usual house cleaning. Tonight for dinner, we’re having ground beef with brown gravy over homemade biscuits. I need to make enough biscuits for tomorrow as well, so I’ll triple the recipe. With this heat, I would rather not heat up the house during the day with the oven if I can help it. We’re going to have left overs from tonight’s dinner for lunch tomorrow.

I still haven’t gotten around to part 6 of the Titus 2 series, but I will get to it over the weekend. This heat is exhausting me and I’m finding it hard to accomplish the mere basics of my schedule. I’m going to take a nap with Riley in a bit, so hopefully that will help.

Key Verse:
Ephesians 6: 10-11, “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.” (NIV)

Devotion:
Each spring, my husband and I walk on the nature trail at the park. We meet there each day to shed off a layer of our winter coats until a fit look for summer is accomplished. One day, we were on our last lap when, suddenly, I noticed a long, black, snake poised on my side of the trail as if he were simply a stick. I stopped dead in my tracks and let out a piercing scream. The snake kept his position, while my husband turned and ran the other way! I knew then it was everybody for themselves!

Of course, my husband remembers the event quite differently in his mind. He recalls protecting me from the snake by fearlessly attacking it with his bare hands. Next, he remembers how he whirled the snake around and slung it back into the woods. Then, he believes I rushed him with rewards of hugs and kisses while exclaiming, “Oh, my beloved hero, you saved me from that evil snake!” It puzzles me how two people at the same event can walk away with two different stories!

After I returned home from our walk, I wondered how many times we had passed a snake while being unaware of its presence. Now when we walk, I’m on guard looking for the snake behind every bush, every pile of leaves and every tree. While it’s good to be on guard for snakes while walking through the woods, there’s another snake we should be aware of as we walk through the Christian life. He is described as the serpent of old who is called the devil, who deceives the whole world (Rev.12: 9b).

As you and I serve the kingdom of God, the enemy is going to be found in our path from time to time. He knows that we are a threat to his kingdom and he intends to try to stop us just as he tried to stop Christ. During our Christian journey, he may show up in forms such as trials, broken relationships, and temptations. Yet, our Lord has provided a way for us to stand guard against the devil’s tactics.

First, we can guard ourselves against the devil by remembering that Christ conquered him on the cross. He no longer holds us in bondage to sin nor can he hold death over our heads.

Second, we can guard against the enemy by resisting him. While he still has the power to tempt us, we can experience victory as we submit to God and resist the devil so he will flee from us (James 4: 7).

Finally, we can be on guard by dressing daily in the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:14-17). When we dress ourselves each day in the armor of God, it acts as a hedge of protection that keeps the enemy from bestowing hardships on us.

During my walk with Christ, the “snake” has crossed my path many times with trials and temptations, as I’m sure he has in yours. However, if we are wise, during those times we will cling to our Protector and allow Him to guard us from the enemy’s schemes. As we stand firm in the Lord, we will find that our God is able to defeat the serpent of old. Then, with praise due Him, we will proclaim the victory of our Defender!

My Prayer for Today:
Lord, thank you for being my Mighty Defender, and providing me with ways to stand firm against the enemy’s schemes. May you grant me victory from every trap and snare so that I might glorify your Name. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Application Steps:
Just like putting on your clothes each day, take time to dress yourself in the full armor of God. Read Ephesians 6: 14-17 until you are familiar with helmet of salvation, the breast plate of righteousness, the belt of truth, the sword of the spirit, the shoes of peace and the shield of faith. Through prayer, dress yourself with each protective piece of armor. Then you will be able to stand against the enemy’s enticements.

Reflection Points:
What are some trails that the devil has shown up on in your life and ministry?

Do you prepare to stand firm each day by dressing yourself in the armor of God?

Do you praise and thank the Lord for His protection from the enemy in your life?

Do you practice resisting temptation, or do you give into the enemy’s schemes?

In what ways can you be on guard against the devil?

Power Verses:
2 Peter 2:9, “The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations.” (KJV)

1 Peter 5:8, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” (KJV)

James 1:13, “Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man.” (KJV)

1 John 4:4, “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” (KJV)

Hebrews 2:18, “For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.” (KJV)

Works for Me Wednesday – Car Trip Necessities

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

It’s time for another addition of Shannon’s Work For Me Wednesday!

We’ve been making a lot of 3 hour round trip visits to my doctor for the past couple of months and keeping the car straightened can be a real hassle, not to mention the extra expense of drinks and snacks. So to make things easier, I bought a backpack for each of the kids. This back pack stays in the car at all times, except I allow them to bring it in when we’re at the doctor’s office to keep them busy. I’ve filled them with paper, colored pencils (NO crayons or markers), books, coloring books, and small toys the kids enjoy (Legos, Hot Wheels, and things like that). I’ve also started filling a small ice chest with drinks and snacks. I also keep plastic grocery sacks in the car. When the trip is over, they are required to use the plastic sacks to pick up any trash from the car before getting out. This has saved us a lot of “I’m bored” and “I’m hungry” moments as well as the advantage of having a clean car after the trip!

New Graphics and My Day So Far

I thought it was time for a graphic change on my blog :) School time will be rolling around soon and I was getting tired of the patriotic graphics, now that July is almost over with :) What do you think of the re-decorating?

My ISP has FINALLY resolved the issue with their tower, so I am once again able to get email…yea!!!!

Today, I’m REALLY going to try and work on Part 6 of the Titus 2 series. I got the other article written and it’s now up on the Homekeeper’s Heart Blog. I was accepted as an expert author at Ezinearticles.com, you can see my writings HERE. I’m excited about it, so I thought I’d share :) . I also finished my newest digital scrapbook paper pack and element pack. When it gets uploaded into the shoppe, I’ll show a preview here.

On the home front, I’ve got to do a little laundry and cleaning, just the usual stuff! I also need to start the beans for dinner tonight. Well, I’m off to get lunch started, eat and then get Riley down for a nap. Have a great day everyone! I’ll try to stop back by before this evening!

Amazing Blogs

I find blogs so amazing! There are just so many good ones out there with lots of great information to share. There is truly a revolution going on the web! SAHM’s, homemakers, and traditional Christian women have found a voice in which to share their wisdom, thoughts and dreams. While in the world, Titus 2 type “older women” have nearly become extinct, they are flourishing on the web! Here are just some articles and things I ran into just today, I believe this sampling is a good example of what you can find nearly everyday. If you haven’t discovered some of these blogs before, enjoy!!

So, these are just a few of the blogs I visit regularly.

Hugs & Blessings!
Susan
